Crete is well known for celebration of ancient times. Citizen of Crete thousands of years ago, celebrated and honored the twelve gods of the ancient Greek mythology.
A great celebration back then was tavrokathapsia, in which Cretans used to do tricks on wild bulls in a specially designed arena, as pictured above. It was a great honor and responsibility to participate in tavrokathapsia (see big image).

Ancient Cretans and especially Minoans seemed to worship bulls as a kind of god. As a matter of fact, in Hellenic mythology there is the myth of the Minotaurus (also known as
Minotaur), a creature that had half the body of a human and half the body of a bull. Minotaurus was the keeper of the Minoan palace’s maze and killed everyone that entered it. Crete has much to teach its visitors about its ancient culture and civilization.
