Petradi Beach Hotel Apartments in Rethymno is the perfect accommodation solution for you, as it has a top-quality facilities rating and a privileged setting. The hotel is by the beach, has swimming pools, and is just a 20 minute walk away from the town of Rethymno.
Enjoy your cup of coffee under the palm trees by the swimming pool, or on your room’s balcony with the magnificent view of the Mediterranean Sea in front of you. Some say that the spot provides an even better view for the sunset than the one of Santorini island! You can also see the spectacular old venetian “Fortezza” castle from most rooms and even sleep with the sound of the sea as a sweet lullaby.
The hotel also provides amenities like satellite T.V. with 4 International Channels including BBC, air-conditioned rooms, direct dial phone with Internet Ready Plug-in sockets and fully equipped kitchen with a fridge.

Additionally, there are so many customs relative to the Easter period and the way it is celebrated in Greece and Crete. On Easter day, the most famous custom is the skewering of the lamp, which tastes delicious. Especially Cretans, famous for their passion for meat, are considered to be masters in the preparation of the lamp.
Another custom is the the decoration of the house with red-painted eggs; eggs symbolize the new life, also symbolized by the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The red paint symbolizes the holy blood of Jesus, who was sacrificed to save the people. Red easter eggs along with a cake-like sweet called “tsoureki”, are what most housewives in Greece and Crete prepare for the day of Easter.
Cretans are generally peaceful and calm, but everybody knows how much they like to celebrate. On the day of Easter, in the villages of Crete mostly, people take out their shotguns and fire multiple rounds in the air, showing the end of the mourn and the victory of Life upon death according to the Christian beliefs.

Crete is beautiful not only during the summer, but during spring as well. Many choose to visit the island on the last days of springtime, for the peace that is hard to find during the summer on Crete.
Greeks are Christians and Easter for them is as important as Christmas. There is a 40-days fast before the day of Easter, which ends with the skewering of the lamp, a day that everybody awaits because it symbolizes the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the victory of Life upon death according to the Christian religion.
Cretans are very religious people, and Crete is just magic during the period of Easter, or “Pascha”, in their language. There are many customs for this particular period, which are just a glimpse of the Greek and Cretan culture. The last week before Easter day is mournful because it symbolizes the crucifixion of Christ.

The last Friday before Easter Day, every Church in Greece takes a symbolic corpse, symbolizing the body of Christ, carried by four men and taken on the streets, and then back at the Church. This Friday, because of what it stands for, is considered as the most sacred day during the Holy Week. To be continued…

It is great to travel a lot, see new places of the world and have many experiences. So Hawaii is a great tropical resort and the Maldives are beautiful too, but there is more to someone’s vacations than a nice place.
My point is, if you are a person with many interests and want to get the most of your free time during your vacation, the destination you are looking for is the Mediterranean. The unique culture of the Mediterranean countries and the friendly behavior of the people are some of the reasons why somebody should visit southern European countries. Spain, Italy and Greece are some of the planet’s top destinations, because of their unique beauty and culture.
Statues, museums, marble buildings and archaeological places are all over these countries. Greece is well-know for the factors mentioned above, and Crete is just the perfect example. A beautiful island, full of beaches and places to visit. To see all of it you will need some assistance of course. A car hire Crete agency with experience and a staff ready to back you up and find solutions to satisfy your transportation needs is all you will need. Select a vehicle from an always-updated fleet of cars and motorbikes and have the vacations of your life! Hurry up though, summer has almost arrived!

There are many myths and tales around Crete in the mythology, the stories written in the ancient Greece by the Greek artists. People that take the time to look through the Cretan history and the Cretan mythology find it really interesting. A story that everybody likes is the one of the king Minos, or Minoas (names after the Minoan tribe and the Minoan times). King Minoas was believed that possessed a great treasure in his palace and that an imaginary creature called the Minotaurus guarded the treasure. That creature had half the body of a man and half the body of a bull and inhabited the labyrinth of the palace, killing anyone who entered it. It is very exciting to read about the way that young Theseus managed to enter and kill the legendary creature, then made it out of the maze with help from the king’s daughter, princess Ariadne.
More stories like this one are written down in the books of Greek Mythology, so if you liked it find similar stories in websites like Wikipedia. Even better, you could visit some of Crete’s magnificent museums! If you plan on visiting the island, check out the car fleet of Car Hire Crete and you will definitely find a vehicle to suit your transportation needs on Crete.

This is an article about the famous Cretan artist, the painter El Greco. His work has been greatly appreciated, inspired other artists and made his famous.
Resources were taken from Wikipedia – “http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/El_Greco“. Accessed at 04.15.2008.
“El Greco (“The Greek, 1541 – April 7, 1614) was a painter, sculptor, and architect of the Spanish Renaissance. He usually signed his paintings in Greek letters with his full name, Domenicos Theotokopoulos (Greek: Δομήνικος Θεοτοκόπουλος), underscoring his Greek origin.
El Greco was born in Crete, which was at that time part of the Republic of Venice, and the centre of Post-Byzantine art. He trained and became a master within that tradition before travelling at 26 to Venice, as other Greek artists had done. In 1570 he moved to Rome, where he opened a workshop and executed a series of works. During his stay in Italy, El Greco enriched his style with elements of Mannerism and of the Venetian Renaissance. In 1577 he moved to Toledo, Spain, where he lived and worked until his death. In Toledo, El Greco received several major commissions and produced his best known paintings.
El Greco’s dramatic and expressionistic style was met with puzzlement by his contemporaries but found appreciation in the 20th century. El Greco is regarded as a precursor of both Expressionism and Cubism, while his personality and works were a source of inspiration for poets and writers such as Rainer Maria Rilke and Nikos Kazantzakis. El Greco has been characterized by modern scholars as an artist so individual that he belongs to no conventional school. He is best known for tortuously elongated figures and often fantastic or phantasmagorical pigmentation, marrying Byzantine traditions with those of Western painting.”

One place you definitely have to visit is Spili village. Spili is located in the center of Crete, in a green area full of trees, a symbol of the nature of Greece and the beauty of the island.
Spili is famous for its products. There are plenty of shops in the center of the village, selling traditional Cretan products like Greek hone, the famous Mediterranean virgin olive oil and several kind of cheese, like Mitzithra, malaka cheese and, of course, Feta cheese. If you visit the village, don’t forget to visit the shops as well; you will be glad if you take some traditional products back home.
Spili is beautiful not only for its vegetation but also for the mountainous areas surrounding it. These areas are ideal for a walk and provide ideal panoramic view of the village, which is one of the best destinations on the Greek island. Visit the blessed village and you will remember it for the rest of you life.

Not only Cretans are kind and helpful. We would like to be of assistance as well. This article provides information and useful links about the beautiful island of Crete.
Crete is the biggest island of Greece, and the most inhabited as well. It has four prefectures: Heraklion, Lasithi, Rethymno and Chania, each one of them having a unique beauty. It is also important to have already solved the problem of transportation on the island before you even visit it. So we suggest you visit the website of Car Hire Crete Elite car rental agency and make your booking from a fleet that will satisfy all needs.
Economic and luxury vehicles, small cars for the city or off-road car, all are included in this agency’s fleet. Its staff will take care of everything so all you have to do is enjoy your vacations.
