Fishing in crete by a vehicle from Elite car hire Crete

Either you are just a visitor of our blog, or an experienced diver who wants to visit Greece and Crete, you might want to know some kind of fish around the island, so here’s a small article about this topic.

The first one is a quite common one around Greece, the scorpion fish (also known as Scorpaena in Greece). The scorpionfish might be impressive but pay attention, its back has stings are not just decorative, they are venomous. Don’t worry though, the scorpionfish rarely leaves the rocky and stony areas it inhabits so you try avoiding them if you want to avoid this venomous fish.

Another common fish found around Crete and the rest of Greece and Mediterranean as well is the Black Goby (Greeks know it as “Govios”). It is most likely to see Black Gobies near the Cretan shores and not in deep seawater. This kind of fish is always a top specialty for Cretans and they are considered a fine catch for fishermen.

Other common fish of Crete are the Atherinas, the Pearly Razorfish and, of course, the Octopus, which tastes great with the traditional drink of Crete, the “raki”! I hope this article was a little bit helpful to you. Enjoy Crete…

Why Crete?

Greece is known, amongst others, for its great number of islands. Many of them worth visiting and are considered as top destinations, such as Mykonos, Rhodes, Corfu and Paros (both in the Ionian Sea and the Aegean Sea). First of all, Crete is the biggest island of Greece. This means that it has the most beaches of any other island. There are so many things to do while in Crete, as it combines sea and beaches with mountains and trails you will surely find amazing.

Another thing that is great about Crete is the way its citizens behave. Cretans are simple and peaceful, yet friendly and warm people with a great sense of hospitality. They always invite guests to have some rounds of their favorite drinks such as “tsikoudia” and “raki”. Do not deny to have a couple of drinks with them, it is considered an insult!

Crete is one of the most beautiful places of the Mediterranean. You should definitely spend some time there to see how the life is on this island and taste the local cuisine specialties. Witness a simple, yet exciting way of life and you will be looking forward to visiting Crete on your next chance!! Just a few days will convince you that is it more than worth the visit.

Crete top vacation places - Kissamos beach

A famous destination of Crete is the beach of Kissamos, also known as Kastelli. Kastelli is located on western side of the island. Having arrived on the airport of Chania or on the port of Chania with a ferry, take the road to the west in order to reach Kissamos. The area combines characteristics that attract many tourists, such as beaches with crystal clear seawater, alleys in the small town of Kissamos that remind us of another, simple way of life. You will have the chance to see the stone-built houses and enjoy the peace of the gulf of Kissamos. Although Crete has lots of places to visit, we suggest you just take your time and spend a couple of days in a traditional Hotel of Kastelli.
